Summary
Power supply
A dedicated Jemena zone substation was constructed at 598 Geelong Road, Brooklyn to supply the campus, delivered between April and September 2023 by Global Rail Australia on behalf of Jemena/Zinfra. The substation was delivered to support 33MVA maximum demand initially, with an ultimate capacity of 99MVA [1].
Build stages
Stage 1 — Complete (July 2024)
- Construction of the first facility at CDC's Brooklyn campus (BK1) began in May 2022 and concluded in July 2024. The power draw of BK1 is more than 150MW, encompasses 70,000m2 and cost $20 million. CDC contracted Total Constructions for construction and Green Civil Australia for civil works [2]. The BK1 project included the concurrent build of a new on-site electrical substation by Global Rail Australia on behalf of Jemena [3]. The substation project itself commenced in April 2023 and finished in September 2023.
Stage 2 — Complete (February 2026)
- Construction of the second facility at CDC's Brooklyn campus (BK2) began in October 2024 and had a target completion of late 2025 [4]. On 26 February 2026, the Victorian Government and CDC announced the official opening of the Brooklyn campus. In the announcement, it was said that "two state-of-the-art facilities are up and running and planning is already underway for a third facility on the site." [5]
Stage 3 — Planned
- As of February 2026, planning for an unnamed third facility was underway [6]. No further information has surfaced as of late-July 2026.
