Summary
Overview
G1 will be NEXTDC's first data centre in Geelong. NEXTDC purchased the site for more than $16 million in 2024 [1], and has engaged Kapitol as the builder [2]. The facility is expected to be operational in the second half of 2027. A fast-tracked permit was granted via the Victorian Government's Development Facilitation Program PA2503895.
Noise
Preliminary acoustic advice (NDY/GHD, 22 August 2025) found predicted noise from mechanical plant and standby generators may, without mitigation, exceed EPA night-time limits at the nearest residential receivers south of the site. The permit requires a detailed Acoustic Environmental Impact Assessment confirming compliance with EPA Publication 1826.4 prior to commencement, with either quieter generators (≤106 dBA sound power) or a solid noise barrier recommended as mitigation options.
Build stages
Stage 1 — Under construction
- One data hall, front-of-house office, loading facilities, utilities and car park landscaping. Approximately 3,377m² of site coverage.
Stage 2 — Planned
- Additional data halls, expanded office/storage and further car parking. Total site coverage increases to approximately 7,312m².
