Summary
X2M Connect Limited announced on 9 July 2026 that its development partner Resi Ventures had completed settlement of land approximately 10km from Ballarat's CBD, securing the site for the first data centre precinct dubbed the "Miners Rest Renewable Energy Integration Precinct". [1]
Per the announcement, the precinct is planned to comprise a 10–100MW data centre, a 10+MW battery energy storage system, heavy EV charging, an anaerobic biodigester, hot house horticulture, and connections to regional renewable energy zones. X2M is proposed to act as the "AI-enabling integration layer" for the precinct, managing power, cooling, metering, connectivity and safety systems via its Hive.AI platform.
No local or state permit application has been made public as of 15 July 2026. Resi Ventures and X2M state they are "working together on a pipeline of data centre expansion opportunities across Australia with one additional site already owned and a further site under negotiation."
It is likely that the proposed site will be located at the the "Miners Rest Dam" at 13-91 Victoria Street. The site was purchased by Resi Ventures in 2021, with the company initially planning to develop the land into 500 residential lots. The project did not proceed, and the site reverted to farming zone[2][3].
